[FKL] CbellJ – Exchilarated Affection
Our most promising East Malaysian hard-hitter, CbellJ dropped this into my box a few weeks ago:
Hey John,
This is a set I promised you. I’ve accepted your challenge to make a set that tells a story. This set takes you on an emotional joyride, plays with you emotionally and takes you up slowly, it gets harder and darker. I’ve made a cute mushy mushy intro too. lol. what you think abt the set john?
1> hiccup at 7:00 – extra beat (oopsie)
2> I find that whole mix is slightly dsitorting – use a meter to check for clipping before you start mixing so you can gauge the levels.
3> track 3 – the term ‘rapture’ is probably the most overused term in dance music. May seem cheesy to some audiences.
4> So many vocals! All sound like the same chick too! Careful there – the original DJs mixed it up to create atmosphere – I suggest the same to you! (but what do I know, I listen to Techno)
BUT with that said – this is by far your best mix in terms of technical achievement, flow, and progression.
The story is definetly there, I really get the idea of ‘tough love’ in this mix, sort of like a ecstatic mix of love and heavy raindrops. Well done.
I think if you keep it up and work hard at sculpting more stories into your mixes – you’ll make it to Sensation White one day! Good Job!
Thanks mate. Gonna keep that in mind. Yeah, The vocals were use to tell a story of the flow. Each vocals were suppose to describe the current flow. The set was ment to tell a story about feelings, affections and expression to that special someone. So, attention to whoever you are, dont play HARD to get!!!
