HAPPY BIRTHDAY: BONGO! LIVES!

WE (HEART) BONGO!

bongo1.jpg

The FKL Crew would like to extend our most heartfelt congratulations to the Bongo! team who have, just yesterday, celebrated their 1st anniversary fighting crimes against music and bringing bass to babies on our fair, but troubled planet.

We would like to acknowledge that the Bongo! team have been awesome in supporting our humble site as well as providing us some awesome live content recorded from their awesome gigs.

The party’s meager beginnings as a private party has expanded tremendously this year having included playing at 2 prominent after-hour’s locations, shipping down the Thai drum-and-bassers, as well as participating in the Carnival festival in Meleka.

Having upheld a multi-genre approach to their events, the Bongo! team have supported local undergrounders from across the local gamut of talent as well as maintaining a following in their core sound – Drum and Bass.

We were there at their party last night, and as you can see, they rocked it proper.

However…

Amit from Metalheadz, who was a slated headliner, bailed out after 20 minutes of playing. It was reported later that a simple ego-related technical difficulty halted his ability to entertain-

-like Goldie.

So in true Bongo! fierceness, the Works took over and rocked the room into the floor, without a pause in breath. Everyone left happy and satisfied knowing that not even a diva producer could quell the bloodthirsty passion for music like the Bongo! dudes did.

Ego-related technical difficulty???? God I hope I never end up with a head that big. I can’t wait til’ I’m allowed to leave the country again. My 1st vacation is going to be yalz neck of the woods. Parties in the b-low are on life support yet AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

  2. When ARE you allowed to leave the country?

In short, if Amit ever makes it to Buffalo, make sure you have speakers capable of 1 – 2 hz frequencies. Otherwise he’ll crap a mango and leave with your money.

When you make it down here, YOU should play for Bongo! – these guys really know what their doing.

4 Years. Once I’m off probation. These Erie County POs are bloody evil. I can’t even leave the County w/o a travel permit. Not that that’s stopped me from rawkin’ it out in the Rochacha. But they keep close tabs on who’s going in and out of the US. Once I get a good behavior note I’m sure I’ll be able to leave sooner than later.

Big up all of you who turned up for the party. It was a crazy, last-minute affair (see what happens when your old venue cancels on your ass 1 week before the gig) and almost all of the system was pooled together from friends but I wouldn’t have changed a single thing about the party – it was awesome. Well, except maybe the bastard who nicked my projector…Can you give it back, please?

  5. There was a projector? Where?

  6. TherapyAsia says:

On an official note, for your information.

The artist was unable to perform due to the faulting sound system rendering him unable to use his relevant controllers needed for his set and therefore was unable to perform.

As violating clause 28 ‘Force Majeure’ in all major artist agreements in our history of artist management and our partner agencies in the region and the UK.

It states that the artist reserves the right to decline to perform in the event of any reason beyond the control of the artist including, but not limited to, illness, detention resulting from inability to obtain reasonable modes of transport, strike, lock out, war, fire, loss of venue, serious or dangerous weather conditions, national calamity, acts of god, order of the local and/or national government or local licensing or health authority, actual or threatened riots or civil disorder or any reason including, but not limited to, faulty or insufficient electrical power, inadequate or unsafe staging, inadequate crash barrier, rain penetration, inadequate or faulting sound systems, or any other dangerous condition which, in the opinion of the Artist may result in damage to the Artist’s equipment or danger or injury to the Artist, any of the artist’s staff, or any other persons. In any such event, neither party hereto shall be entitled to make any claim against the other party for non-fulfillment of any outstanding obligations yet to be performed on the part of such other party.

The additional cancellation of the clinic was made on the promoters decision.

It is professional protocol to adhere to technical requirements as to not undermine the performers artistic capabilities, and it is basic levels of standard that is needed for any performance of an artist of that caliber.

  7. Guys, it’s a legitimate comment. Not spam. Even though it sounds like it.

    Welcome to the blog TherapyAsia.

TherapyAsia: While that it may be true that theres a clause in his contract. I’m sure if the artist had taken the effort to just tell the crowd “look the soundsystem is f*cked, sorry guys” instead of sulking, alot of people would be happier.

  9. magso says:

so… if I’m a british / regional artist, i can cancel my performances if i think its not up to standard or if i’m happy about … anything?

what about the audience? whatever happened to -the show must go on?

i stood up a wedding dinner to come to see amit :( i didnt even get his autograph cos he ran off so fast. wtf?

  10. Guys, TherapyAsia: Don’t air contractual issues on our blog.

We’re busy trying to free Burma.

However, I would like to disclaim that FoundationKL.org – Based out of Los Angeles, California – is entitled to the shared views expressed here on this blog.

Also, it would be helpful if you could leave a name and possibly a link to your website if you wish to take advantage of the SE-optimized capabilities of this blog. Keep in mind that all comments here tend to end up on Google -very- quickly.

  11. Aresha says:

On a personal note, being the person fronting therapyasia, and having worked with countless promoters and artists – YES, they do reserve the right to cancel if the set up is sub-standard and is found to undermine their artist capability. IE if you give a belt driven turntable to an artist like Dieselboy or London E, they would try their level best to perform and if its impossible, they can refuse to perform.

They aren’t international acts of that caliber for nothing.

Just for the record, the sound man was nowhere to be found, to the point that I was there trying to fix the situation.

I even requested at time of sound check to try and bring in additional bass because a two-top no sub system that would usually be used for a street roadshow is in no way fit for a club night of that standard. Any international act i know have refused to play if the output sound was really just static.

He was unable to use his controllers as it wouldn’t even pick up the sound as the bass drivers were blown out of fixing.

I even tried to ask for some back up sound to be arranged so that he can perform at a later time.

Nobody who was fronting the gig seemed to be making any effort to rectify it. There was nothing else that could be done.

Amit did request for an announcement to be made, I personally delivered that message three times to the promoters – but none was done. He left because nobody was making any effort to explain to the crowd on the situation and on top of that he was accused of ‘giving up’ – when he was clearly trying to hold it down and I was trying to sort the sound out, which isn’t my responsibility – but the event promoters.

If anyone has any queries on the event and would like to contact me can do so via e-mail or MSN.

  12. Aresha – you did not leave an email or an MSN address as stated in your comment.

    Bongo Promoters / TherapyAsia:

This is NOT a forum for contractual issues. If there is ANOTHER post from either parties with this nature please take it off this site.
