[FKL][Expansion] DJ Evo – This Is Love [001]
From Trance, With Love
Dj Evo steps up as our first Expansion participant. This freelance dancer cum DJ gives us a dose of euphoric trance, something we haven’t had on The Foundation in a while come to think of it, with ‘This Is Love’. Here’s a little blurb about the boy:
“Starting at the age of 16, DJ Evo was exposed to new sounds after his first few visits to clubs in KL. He begain to collect Hard Trance and produce mixsets on his computer. Successfully producing his first mixset entitled ‘Resonance’ he moved to slower genre – Trance with lots of vocals. DJ Evo has made appearances in alot of small parties and a couple of clubs in Johor. His guest mix entitled ‘This Is Love’ also appear on Radio Kul episode 057.”
Though not a particularly long set (just over 30 mins), it gives one an idea of the sounds that inspire DJ Evo and it includes heavyweight numbers from Armin Van Buuren, ATB and Above & Beyond.
Give the mix a listen and leave us your thoughts. Remember the number of responses are also an integral part of the final tally that will decide the winners of the Expansion. Stats will be monitored for a period of one week.

A true Trance mix. Personally never dug vocal trance too much. I used to toss a track or two in a set but never a full set. One thing I will point out that you should watch, is your levels. 1st track was a little up and down on the gain, and between transitions, the incoming tracks were either a little too low, or overtook too quickly. Try aiming for hard drop offs on either end to begin or end your mixes.
this is good shit…at first i didn’t like/love vocal trance…this made me like it very much…nice mix btw…

nice set. all tracks were new to me for i havent been into vocal trance for a while – except some tiesto sets from time to time. my favourite is “big sky”. amazing tune with nice vocals, voice and mellow!
It’s a little short isn’t it? – 5 tracks is NOT enough to have a gauge of ability. However, the enthusiasm is great and I’m sure with a little work we can get somewhere.

Evo: why do you play trance?
Evo, remember to do your part in propagating your mix as well. The more participation you get, the better your chances.
@john – the rhytmic beats of trance caught my attention and heart, i wanted to pass out the same feeling to everyone i know, perhaps everyone out there, that trance is a good getaway, is like going on a 1 hour holiday each time u listen to trance mixsets. Before that i used to enjoy Hard trance and Hardstyle music when the shuffling craze begun 4 years ago, then a girl by the name of Celtique brought me throught the slower genres of trance and it just hit me like that.

Evo, a few questions for you…
Do you use the idj2 by numark for your mixing and if so, was this mix done on it?
Also, can you give us some more depth on your hour long mixset?

@ Pascal – nope i did not use the idj2 for mixing this set but my future sets will be done using it. For my hour long set, expect lots of vocals from progressive, uplifting and euphoric trance, featuring ever famous Justine Suissa, Audrey Gallagher and Jennifer Rene. My personal voice overs are done by Celtique from Malaysia btw. Thanks guys for so much support, be patient, more to come soon!

Chris Evo: I agree with JK. You mix needs to be longer to be able to have the flow and the journey thats so important when mixing vocal trance.
Chris Evo: Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean that I dont think you can pull it off, but it’s good practice as a majority of dj sets, radio slots and such are a minimum of 1
