Dawning of a New Era

Hello Foundationkl! After a long hiatus we are getting back to pulsing out the information that our world is increasingly shaped by. This week the United States of America welcomed their 44th President with much applause, fanfare and hope.

This historic event has far reaching implications of a shift in perception around the world. In the year 2009 a man of bi-racial heritage begins leadership of one of the most contradictory countries in the world. The United States of America is also one of the most powerful, influential and populous nations. We are a country of immigrants who subjegated the natives and relegated the existing culture to the fringe of of the fringe of our society to establish a country based on freedom and equality. I’ll spare you the history lesson as it is well known how that intrinsic oxymoron shaped our 300+ year old history.

It’s amazing to observe how the media is so quickly adapting to the wide-spread recognition of the turning point in our shared drama. A society who’s public image of beauty was largely dominated by White males and females in every type of communication is already bombarding the public-consicousness with images of beautiful Black males and females.

This simple step is the the information I wanted to share with all of you in the Foundation today. Our reflection of shared mind, the media, is now focusing on our diversity from a Positive aspect. The media is striving to show our diversity for the purpose of sharing aspects that we may not be familiar with and need to get to know.

I recently had huge acknowledgement that one of my soul’s purpose is to help organize the perceptions of groups to see beauty in what they may not have expected, and so I call for you to be aware of this, the change that is here is for us all.

Thus far the Foundation has been a venue where we can all share our united love of music and where we do our part ot make known the bedroom producers and DJs around the world. We are an example to all that we belong to a global society. Our bonds, minds and hearts are all one and the Earth is our one shared planet. No matter what country you live in, what nationality you claim, what you find to be worth living, fighting or dieing for, we are all connected.

Barack Obama’s ascendance to the US Presidency is a testament that even the deepest wounds can mend, allowing the strength of unity to arise from the experience. And just so, we should all strive to mend the wounds that lend to our feeling of seperation. This is the the Dawn of a New Era, and it’s purpose, our purpose, is unity.

FKL: Alive and Kicking.

No, We’re Not Dead

Just getting over our holiday hiccups, hangovers and hullabaloos. We’ll be back in full swing by next week. 2009 is already shaping up to be one hell of a year.

SHOW LOVE NOW!

The Foundation Expands

Ok people, listen up! This is going to be the first of many major announcements to come, as we start shaking things up here on The Foundation. Today, we take our first giant leap.

10 NEW SPOTS OPEN FOR FRESH FKL DJs. ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?

First up, we are once again allocating individual web spaces, this time 10 – each with a capacity of 4GB and its own subdomain.

But, rather than just giving them out to the first 10 people who request, we’re going to spice things up with a little competition of sorts. Here’s how it’s going to work:

Those who are interested will have to submit a mix, which can either be hosted externally or sent to us via email based delivery methods like ‘Yousendit’ and such. All genres welcomed. We would also require the track-listing, any form of artwork to go along with the mix (400 x 400px @ 72 dpi) and a short bio of the submitter.

We will then proceed to publish a review of the mix and use all our SEO and promo resources to promote the mix. What happens from then on will depend on how much the submitter wants his or her mix to be propagated and heard.

Think of it as a test of your own promotional capabilities. What can you contribute? What ideas can you bring to the table to help create more awareness, not just of The Foundation but also of your work and yourself? What will you do to be heard?

The Foundation Admins will track and analyse all the relevant data such as number of hits, downloads, trackbacks and active discussions for a period of one week from the time the mixset review is published. All stats will be made public.

At the end of the day, DJs with the 10 most active and trafficked mixsets will be awarded their individual webspaces with a capacity of 4GB each and personal subdomains.

What is most important however, is the attitude our new members are going to bring to the site. The last thing we need is some know-it-all douche bag who acts like some big hot-shot, using the allocated spaces as just another place to dump mixes. Or worse, as a personal hard-drive!

We’re looking for lovers of music who are passionate about their own preferences, open-minded about styles other than their own and who possess a desire to spread awareness about The Foundation and its family.

Ambassadors, members and graduates take note. You have a chance to engage in this as well. Many of you have encountered super-talented and enthusiastic DJs that would jump at the chance to be a regular member of FKL. You can help choose the next generation of contributors by recommending people who you think deserve to be heard.

If you would like to nominate yourself or somebody else, leave us a comment below this post expressing your interest in participating, as well as the necessary links for the required items as mentioned above. This will help make things simple as well as allow us to keep our list of participants public.

These are certainly exciting times and we look forward to everyone’s participation in this project. If you have any thoughts, recommendations or questions, head to the comments and let us know.

The FoundationKL.org Official 4th Anniversary Party and Juice DJ Quest Victory Party

Dear Club-owner / Promoter,

On the 5th / 6th of December, FoundationKL.org, one of the most influential websites on Malaysian dance music will be holding their official 4th Anniversary party in Kuala Lumpur. Concurrently, we will also be celebrating the achievement of two of our top DJs, EJ and Anowl, who have both won the Juice DJ Quest Local Finals in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur respectively and will be facing each other at the regional finals, also held on that night.

We are looking for a Venue who are interested in working with us to hold this monumental event.

We have an average of over 50,000 unique visitors to this website per month. Also, we specialize in social media marketing for our DJs and musicians. Any association your club may have on our website will positively affect your credibility with the local underground, as well as take advantage of our fully operational direct marketing capabilities.

The testimonials on this website, as well as the widespread exposure found throughout the Internet should be enough to verify our credibility.

To turn down our offer would be a waste of valuable media exposure, where I can confidently say has a net worth of 5-digits or more. Please feel free to contact any media-buyers you may know if you so-choose to confirm our claim.

In exchange for the usage of your venue, sound system, and your cooperation, we will give you a full size 100 x 200 banner on the right hand of our sidebar. Any information architect will tell you that this is prime web property, and we will give you this space, pro-bono, for up to 4 months.

Additionally, we will use our social media engine to inform our followers, fans, media, and supporters towards to event. A demographic of working mid-20-somethings, with mostly disposable incomes.

If you are interested in discussing this further, please feel free to contact me personally at my email address at johnkuan(AT)foundationkl(DOT)org.

Warmest Regards,

John Kuan

PS: Please forward this page to all your friends who would be interested in cooperating with us. Thanks.

Abolish The Internal Security Act

Abolish The I.S.A. and Free All Detainees

The draconian Internal Security Act has long been imbued into the Malaysian psyche. The act, passed in 1960, has been the battering ram of the powers that be to exact their will and purpose upon those who are claimed as a threat to national security.

Section 73(1) Internal Security Act 1960 states:

Any police officer may without warrant arrest and detain pending enquiries (sic) any person in respect of whom he has reason to believe that there are grounds which would justify his detention under section 8; and that he has acted or is about to act or is likely to act in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to maintenance of essential services therein or to the economic life thereof.

Where else Section 8 of the ISA grants the power to order detention or restriction of persons.

(i) If the Minister is satisfied that the detention of any person is necessary with a view to preventing him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to the maintenance of essential services therein or the economic life thereof, he may make an order (hereinafter referred to as a detention order) directing that that person be detained for any period not exceeding two years.

However, as most Malaysians will attest, the Act has long been abused by the vice grip of the ruling coalition, dating all the way back to the infamous May 13th Incident of 1969, the Ops Lalang of 1984 and the much publicized arrest of former Deputy Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim. The ISA enables sectors of the ruling coalition to detain a person for not less than 60 days, incommunicado with lawyers and family members prohibited from reaching the detainee.

The blatant abuse of the act and the complete disregard of basic human rights continue to this very day with the recent unfounded arrests of the Hindraf 5, Raja Petra Kamarudin , Tan Hoon Cheng and Teresa Kok. While Tan Hoon Cheng and Teresa Kok have been released, due mostly to the voice of utter disapproval by the Malaysian public and opposition leaders, there are still numerous detainees who are held without any justification and are not allowed their basic right to defend themselves in a court of law.

The detention of journalist Raja Petra Kamarudin shows that the ruling coalition will do whatever it takes to silence those who expose the various misdeeds and corrupt practices of those who walk the Corridors of Power. Trumped up charges and blatant abuse of authority have reigned down upon this man and all those who have felt the brunt of this medieval law.

The Foundation would like to underscore and vehemently denounce the use of such draconian and uncivilized law as means of intimidating and silencing public outcry. We demand that all ISA detainees be released from detention and be tried in a court of law immediately.

We would like to ask our readers to take a few moments and sign the petition below in support of the cause. Let’s do this for a better and brighter Malaysia. Amar maaruf, nahi munkar.
