Jode aka Jody Newman has been an interloper here at the Foundation for a better part of 6 months and now he presents us with his official bid to become a regular contributing member.

A conniseur of the liquid funk and intelligent incarnations of drum & bass, Jode has crafted a silk smooth set that showcases some of the best producers of the style, i.e. Calibre, D-Bridge, Commix, Logistics, and Klute for 45 minutes of intense, deep, driving listening pleasure.

I love finding new talent for the Foundation and I have found a wikked DJ for your listening pleasure straight from the Western Midlands, UK. Escape aka Courtney Holder brings the ruckus on his December mix. This digital dynamo opens strong with a 15 minute neurofunk/tech-step opener, subtley leads us into some ragga and pure roots music for another 15 minutes, and then rinses out for a good 40 minute blend of diverse and banging tunes. DiE WaLküRe

Music in Leipzig, Germany may conjure up thoughts of classical composers like Richard Wagner and Johann Sebastian Bach to those steeped in tradition, but what many may not know is that Leipzig has a burgeoning scene of electronic pioneers and innovators with a penchant for blistering analogue bass belches, decimated high hats, and industrial snare hits. Aura Kamikura, aka Janina Otto, and the Global Noise Movement, are amongst those leading the way.

Aura has graced us with a micro-set from a Live session at Moritzbastei featuring tracks from Reformed Faction, Sonic Subjunkies, Mlada Fronta, Celluloid Mata, DJ Hidden, Ammo, Overcast, and 13th Hour. The set is organic yet logical and leads you though a journey of industrial, haunting, and sometimes, frightening intensity.

I think the DJ and producer, explains her take on music best in her own words:
I find it admirable that this scene is so wide: from techno to trance, from breakbeats to industrial and rhythmic noise. So I never can make a strict decision what to play. My sets differ from hard breaks, dark d`nb to industec, electro and rhythmic noise and also idm. Despite of this I would name everything which is produced with nous and sense as “intelligent dance music.”

Liquid Steel

Jody Newman serves up some DnB for the weekend with this brilliant amalgamation; criss-crossing multiple terrains and uniting them in one viscous and seem-less assembly. Starting off with a very trippy dreamscape, our mixologist proceeds to flow and rip his way through, dropping massive floor fillers midway, before tapering off into Valhalla.

While the set isn’t exactly new, it’s an impeccable blend of tunes that are close to the boy’s heart. With names like Juju, Skynet, Zero Tolerance and Calibre amongst the tracklist, this is a showcase of some mad skills from this DnB ninja.

When being lost is a good thing

These mixes have been sitting in cryo-freezer for quite sometime until Radzy brought them to my attention. So with that, we’re gonna put up 2 mixsets from our good friend from Loops Collective and the driving force behind KL’s massively popular Liquid Jump Up nights – AnOwl.

Orlando Booming

Fellow FKL Editor, Pascal Dupuy a.k.a Dj Möet serves up a vivaciously-thumping DnB set with the sixth installation of his ‘Groundbreaking’ themed sets, which sees Big Boy dishing out a concrete sonic wallop.

Feel The Resistance

The Resistiv3 crew recently churned some guts and most probably gave a few people a sensory lobotomy with their back to back sessions at KL’s Palate Palette Restaurant & Bar. And even though I wasn’t able to make the show, judging from these mixsets, it must have been one hell of a night!
